Over the last several years of operation many questions have been asked of our crew. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions and their answers.

Can I cancel my reservation and receive a refund?
All tickets are non-refundable. They may however be exchanged for another date for the same excursion type within the same calendar year. For example, you may exchange Sunset Dinner Train tickets for another Sunset Dinner or a Candy Cane Express ticket for another Candy Cane Express date. Tickets can not be exchanged for a different type of excursion, for instance Pumpkin Trains can not be transferred to Candy Cane Tickets.

How early should I make my reservation?
OCSR will accept reservations up to 24 hours prior to departure for any Coastal Excursion, however you can always come on the day of departure and purchase your tickets on board the train.

Sunset Dinner Trains and other special trains require reservations. Reservations need to be made no later than 72 hours prior to the trip.

Reservations can be made online, click here.

Can I make reservations for a specific seat?
Reservations can be made for seating types, not specific seats within a car.

If I take the 12:00 departure do I have to take the 1 PM return trip?
Due to increased ridership OCSR requires a return on the next train.

Are dogs allowed on the train?
Yes, mild mannered, well behaved dogs are allowed in the open air cars on the regular coastal excursions. They must wear a leash at all times. Owners are responsible for their dog's actions, as well as their messes. Service animals are welcome at any time.

What fuels the locomotive?
All of the OCSR steam locomotives are oil fired. We use recycled motor oil.
